First Coast Flyer Ridership Continues to Grow

Recently, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) published March 2016 ridership figures that indicate four straight months of ridership growth after launching the First Coast FlyerTM (Bus Rapid Transit) “Green Line”. The route operates between Rosa Parks Transit Station and Interstate 295 along Lem Turner with stops at major destinations, including FSCJ, VA Clinic, UF Health and Gateway Town Center. JTA also launched a new mobile ticketing application (mobile app) called MyJTA in conjunction with the Flyer.

Ridership on the Green Line continues to show a steady increase. The route averages 2,100 trips per weekday and has provided 200,372 trips since it opened on December 7, 2015. During March, the Flyer provided 56,876 trips, up from 53,278 trips in February. In addition, the average on-time performance is 94 percent.

“The initial ridership numbers are promising,” said Nathaniel Ford Sr., JTA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Customers are using our system to get to work, healthcare, and places to learn. We are improving people’s lives and strengthening our community.”

The 9.4 mile Green Line on the North Corridor features direct, high-frequency service; 18 branded stations; complimentary Wi-Fi and real-time bus arrival information. The Flyer takes customers longer distances more quickly, makes fewer stops and offers 10-minute frequency during weekday peak hours and 15-minute frequency during weekday off peak hours. Later this year, a Park-n-Ride lot will open on Armsdale Road.

On April 4th, JTA implemented minor route modifications to make the system more efficient. Additional changes will be made in August. These will largely refine the service and schedules to improve on-time performance.
